Start With Your Own Chart

Identify the dignity condition of every planet in your chart. Which planets are in domicile or exaltation? Which are in detriment or fall? Which are in signs where they have no particular dignity or debility (called "peregrine")? Notice how the dignified planets correspond to areas of natural strength and ease in your life, while the debilitated planets correspond to areas of persistent challenge.

Assess the Chart Ruler

Check whether any planets in your chart are in mutual reception. These hidden connections can reveal unexpected resources and alliances that modify what might otherwise look like difficult placements.

Layer With Sect

Combine dignity assessment with sect. A planet that is in sect and in domicile is in the best possible condition. A planet that is out of sect and in fall is in the most challenging condition. Most planets fall somewhere between these extremes, and the combination of sect and dignity gives you a precise picture of each planet's functional capacity.

Use Dignity for Timing

When a planet becomes activated through transits, profections, or other timing techniques, its natal dignity condition determines how smoothly it will operate during that period. A year ruled by a planet in domicile is likely to flow more easily than a year ruled by a planet in fall.
